House Probes NERC over Alleged N2.7bn Severance Packages to Commissioners

The House of Representatives, on Wednesday, resolved to investigate an alleged planned payment of N2.7 billion by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to its Chairman, and six Board  members as severance package.

This followed a motion sponsored under matter of urgent public importance by Hon. Mohammed Gololo (Bauchi APC) who said NERC planned to pay its outgoing Chairman , Dr. Sam Amadi the sum of N400 million, and N380 million for each of the six board members.

The severance package, Gololo said, ”is intended to cover, among other things, upfront salaries of two years for each member of the board pursuant to section 36 (2) of the electric power sector reform act which bars a member of the board from working in the power sector for a period of two years after leaving office.”
